As most of the locals know my husband owns a glass company. He recently opened a new show room and I've been trying to find pieces to help furnish the new space. One thing he needed was a desk for the front office. I came up with this idea, and to be honest I don't think Mr. Flower Child was too keen on it at first, but I was persistent. This is the result of my persistence:
It all started with this old door my friend gave me (sorry, forgot to take a photo before cutting it in half):
I had my husband put them together and add some molding along the top:
I painted the first coat which was the same as the wall color, a very light gray, almost white.
Then I started adding the glazes. This is the first of many:
Here's a close-up of the first layer of glaze so that you can compare it with the close-ups of the final photos.
Now here are several close-ups of the final finish. I know there are a lot, but there are so many nooks and crannies and each section looks different. I finally gave up trying to choose which ones to post so you get to see them all!
When it was all finished my husband ordered this cool piece of glass to go on top.
And there you go, two old doors, some molding and a really cool piece of glass and you've got yourself a desk. Painting and a gazillion glazes are optional!
